Course Details

Overview

It is a training course for teachers of Greek, which focuses on teaching texts and their vocabulary at all levels of Greek. And not only that: it’s mostly about really assimilating new knowledge of the vocabulary.

We learn where to explore and locate different genres of texts and we practice simplifying an authentic text to serve our students’ learning needs.

It belongs to the EUROLTA Training and Certification Programme, but you can also attend it as a stand-alone course.

The (optional) Final Assignment of the trainee teachers concerns lesson planning at any level of Greek language they are interested in or the simplification of an authentic text of 3-5 pages, based on the simplification techniques proposed.

This Online teacher training course consists of 15 hours (one day of synchronous/live session 09.00-18.00 with the instructor and 5 hours of individual study and communication with fellow students to exchange ideas and experiences).

Intended for
  • Greek Language teachers with no or little language teaching experience
  • Practitioners who have experience in teaching Greek in non-formal contexts, i.e., NGOs or wishing to teach a language they know or Greek as L2
  • Experienced language teachers of Greek who feel they need to upgrade their practical skills
  • Directors of language schools who plan to add Greek as L2 and design curricula for different learners’ groups
  • Other educational or managerial staff, of language organisations, assistant or shadow teachers
Methodology

This course is implemented online in the form of synchronous and asynchronous learning. Synchronous live online learning lasts one day, 10 educational teaching hours, 09.00-18.00.

Learners can study the learning platform materials for 10 additional days after the first day of the synchronous meeting. They communicate through the platform’s Forum with the trainers and fellow trainees, to resolve any queries and exchange ideas.

They are invited to prepare an (optional) final paper as well as to complete the course evaluation document.

The online meeting takes place via Skype.

The certificate of the course is issued 10 days after its end. As long as one attends the major EUROLTA Training and Certification programme, this attestation is incorporated into the final Certificate itself, which is issued by ICC – International Language Association.

The teaching proposal of the Hellenic Culture Centre is based on its long-term experience in teaching Greek as a second/foreign language and includes practical suggestions to enrich your teaching.
