Methodology 

Courses are given via the online educational platforms Moodle and GLOSSA, where all relevant learning materials are uploaded (texts, listening exercises, and activities for all language skills, photos, library, Forum, links to dictionaries and to videos), and via synchronous TEAMS meetings held once or twice weekly. 

During synchronous meetings students practise speaking and the teacher explains, corrects, and organises their work. During the week the students study on the platform where they can read and listen to texts, play educational language games, do grammar exercises, practise speaking by recording their voice through the platform, do their writing tasks, and send all their work to their teacher, who corrects within 48 hours at most.

Self-tuition asynchronous online facilities are not YET available. Enrolments are only accepted for taught classes meeting for at least one hour weekly. The use of the platform is free of charge as an asynchronous mode of learning.

Every level has 4 different parts. According to the Greek Ministry of Education, Centre for the Greek Language, the A1 level is covered usually through a course 100-120 hours long. Our learning cycles cover one part of every level, for example A1a, A1b, A1c, A1d. 

Teaching materials and textbooks

KALEIDOSKOPIO B1,C1,C2 by Ifigenia Georgiadou, published by  the HELLENIC CULTURE CENTRE, are the textbooks used for levels B1, C1, and C2. Students can purchase the books at a discount at the Hellenic Culture Centre (23 euro instead of 29 euro) or in various bookstores in Greece and worldwide. 

*The books are NOT necessary for the course since much of their content is uploaded on our platforms.

Requirements

No special technical knowledge of technology.  However, a 15-minute introductory session is offered for free, if needed, to help students to familiarize themselves with the use of the Moodle or Glossa platforms, and with TEAMS. Students are required to have a good Internet connection and a headset with a microphone.

Before registering, students must do a grading test to enable tutors to check their language level and educational needs. Ask us to guide you to the test suitable for you. You may also do the test orally, via TEAMS. The Director of the Centre will call you in order to assess your language level and design your learning pathway, according to your learning objectives.

Fees 

Timetable: Monday to Friday 9:00-13:30 or 11:30 to 16:30 (1,5-4 hours of language instruction/day)

plus Monday to Friday 18:00 to 19:30 (1,5-2 hours of cultural activities*/day)

1) Fees include:

• All educational materials needed
• 4 hours of Greek Language lesson daily (Monday to Friday). Teaching will be conducted in Greek by the communicative (direct) method. Other languages are used if necessary. The lesson includes the development of all four language skills, communicative activities, language games, listening comprehension, presentations on Greek culture, and students’ projects. Working language: Greek
• 1,5-2 hours of cultural activities daily (Monday to Friday). For more information, see the Activities’ Menu.
• Certificate of attendance, Europass
• Coffee, tea, and biscuits are provided daily during breaks
• Use of the Internet and the Centre’s small book library and video library

2) Fees do not include:

• Accommodation and meals
• Travel insurance. Students are urged to make arrangements for travel insurance
• Airplane or ferry tickets to/from Santorini

3) If you are registered for an Intensive Greek Language Programme and a group of at least 4 students is not formed at a suitable level, you will be offered EITHER to have fewer hours of lessons per day OR, alternatively, you can pay the extra fee for 4 hours of lessons per day according to the number of students in the group.

Fees cover:

1,5 hour lesson every day Mo-Fri if you are on your own in the class

2-hour lesson every day Mo-Fri if there are two students in the class

3-hour lesson every day Mo-Fri if there are three students in the class

4-hour lesson every day Mo-Fri if  there are four to twelve students in the class

You will be informed about the number of students in your class one month before the start of your course.

4) The regular duration for the Greek Literature Programme is 2 weeks.

You can attend longer programmes at all levels.

Fees for the Intensive Group Programme  (4-12 students in the same class): 1 week, Mo-Fr: 700 euro (Greek Literature: 800 euro), 2 weeks: 1300 euro

5) Children participating in the course must be accompanied by an adult

6) 1 teaching hour = 60 minutes

7) Fees must be paid 30 days before the beginning of the course at the latest. Please check our cancellation policy.

Payments have to be made only after receiving a relevant confirmation letter from the HCC.

PRIVATE COURSES

Private tailor-made courses and educational programmes are offered throughout the year in Athens, at any time of the day, for all levels and Special Courses (Greek Language for Translators and Interpreters, Katharevousa – Formal Greek, Legal Terminology, Greek Literature, Greek for children).

Fees for private courses in Athens:

Language Levels Α0 – C2, Preparation for the Certificate of Attainment in Greek (all levels), Beginners’ Crash Course: 45 euros per hour

Special Language Programmes (Greek Language for Translators and Interpreters, Katharevousa -Formal Greek, Legal Terminology, Greek Literature, Greek for children): 50 euros per hour

Discounts and special offers are available in private courses, depending on the period.

Tutors 

All language teachers at the Hellenic Culture Centre are certified and experienced in teaching Greek as a second/ foreign language to adults and adolescents. They also have training and experience in online teaching and they are native speakers of Greek. You can see their CVs here.

Dates 

Start dates for the 8-week cycle GROUP courses for the 2026-2028

Online courses are offered throughout the year, 7 days/ week, from 07.00 to 24.00 Greek time. Please contact us for information about private and semi-private courses.

We recommend 2 hours/week for levels A0- B2, and 1 hour/week for levels C1-C2+ and special courses. In large groups of 4-8 students who take a lesson once a week, we recommend a lesson of one and a half hours instead of one hour.

A teaching hour lasts 60 minutes.

The weekly schedule of the group and semi-private courses are arranged after consultation with the group.

Certification

Our Centre issues a Certificate of Attendance for the lessons held. The Hellenic Culture Centre is an officially recognized organization as a Lifelong Learning Centre and a language school by the Greek Ministry of Education and Religions (EOPPEP code number 2101782/ 2018 and 2308668/2018). 

Working language

Greek is the working language in the Greek courses. At the beginners’ level we also use some times English or/and French. All teachers can speak at least one foreign language.

Cancellation Policy for online courses

• When students are given refunds, the bank charges are paid by them. In case the course is cancelled by the Centre, a full refund will be given to the student at no extra charge.

Cancellation policy for the face-to-face courses.

• • GROUP lessons and SEMI-PRIVATE lessons cannot be cancelled if the students do not attend a scheduled meeting; they pay 100% of the lesson fee as the teacher has to be paid. The lesson is held even if one of the students is present.
  • If a GROUP or SEMI-PRIVATE lesson does not take place due to the absence of all students without prior notice, all students pay 50% of the fees, and the teacher receives 50%.
  • In case a group of students  (after a consensus among all of them) cancels a scheduled GROUP or SEMI-PRIVATE lesson  12 to 6 hours before by emailing the secretariat AND the teacher, they pay 30% of the lesson fees.
  • Students as a group (after a consensus among all of them) can cancel a scheduled  GROUP or SEMI-PRIVATE lesson more than 24 hours before by emailing the secretariat AND the teacher and pay no fees. 
  • Full refunds will be given up until the last day to register in a face-to-face course for the programme (2 months before the beginning of the course)
  • In case a student cancels a scheduled  PRIVATE lesson  24 hours before by emailing the secretariat AND the teacher, they pay no fees.
  • In case a student cancels a scheduled  PRIVATE lesson  12 to 6 hours before by emailing the secretariat AND the teacher, they pay 30% of the lesson fees.
  • When students are given refunds, the bank charges are paid by them. In case the course is cancelled by the Centre, a full refund will be given to the student at no extra charge.

7. You start the lesson!

NOTES:

1. To find out your level in Greek, it would be good to do one of the grading tests that you can find above, in the Grading Test button. Keep in mind that it is best to print it out and write it by hand, without seeking any help. The test is gradually becoming more difficult. So, you do not have to finish it. Then scan it and send it to us, so we can suggest you the best course option that suits your level.
