In this teacher training course you will learn:

Course Details

Overview

The instructors in this teacher training are certified and all have extensive experience in teaching Refugees. They transfer practical knowledge and experience and also play the role of Mentor for the trainee teachers. The programme is designed so that learners learn the essentials of teaching practice, become aware of the refugee issue and acquire important tools and skills in designing and implementing Greek language programmes for refugees. Also included is mentoring to the participants for one year after the start of the course, in order to solve any new challenges in their work, if necessary.

This course can, at an additional cost and based on Teaching practice and Observation of courses to refugees and additional face to face sessions, lead to the EUROLTA Certification, which is provided by the international organization ICC – International Language Association.

The seminar lasts 2 days but you will have access to the platform with the teaching materials for 2 weeks.

In addition, the seminar concludes with a short assignment that includes either lesson planning or the design of a curriculum for Greek for refugees.

This training seminar can also be offered as a face-to-face seminar in Athens or Santorini with a minimum number of participants: 7

Intended for 
  • Greek Language teachers with no or little language teaching experience to refugees
  • Practitioners who have experience in teaching Greek in non-formal contexts, i.e., NGOs or wishing to teach a language they know or Greek as L2
  • Experienced language teachers of Greek to refugees who feel they need to upgrade their practical skills
  • Directors of language schools who plan to add Greek as L2 for refugees or migrants and design curricula for different learners’ groups
  • Other educational or managerial staff, of language organisations, assistant or shadow teachers
Methodology

Apart from study hours according to a time-schedule, the trainees will attend sixteen (16) hours online synchronous Skype sessions with the trainers (optional). The trainers will be communicating through the forum of the platform and will be answering any questions in three days at the latest.

The synchronous sessions are not obligatory, but the trainees could participate in order to ask questions and “meet” all participants. In case a trainee cannot attend the session, she / he will receive the session recorded. 

Trainee teachers have to upload at least one post in every Unit of this course and to upload at least ten answers to other participants. They also should work on the Final Assignment as well as to fill in the evaluation form of the course.

Trainers will be at the trainees’ disposal in order for the later to contact them through Skype, phone or e-mail.

Graduate of the Faculty of Philosophy of the University of Athens and the Transnational Postgraduate Program “Education and Human Rights” of the Universities of Athens and London. Author of five books on the teaching of the Greek language as a mother tongue and as a foreign language. Teacher teacher, Greek teacher in foreign languages, human rights educator. Certified Eurolta Master Trainer (Adult Instructor Trainer).

NIKOS KONSTANTOPOULOS, MA, Graduate of the Faculty of Philosophy of the University of Athens and the Transnational Postgraduate Program “Education and Human Rights” of the Universities of Athens and London as well as the Postgraduate “Cultural Technology” of the University of Athens. EUROLTA Certified Trainer, teacher trainer and member of Amnesty International’s Human Rights Team. Since 1995 she has been teaching voluntarily to immigrants and refugees, people with disabilities and the LGBT community.

YΙOTA BOUZIOU, MA, Graduate of the Faculty of Philosophy of the University of Athens and the Transnational Postgraduate Program “Education and Human Rights” of the Universities of Athens and London. He teaches Greek in a public Lyceum. She was responsible for organizing the Greek program for immigrants and refugees in the Non-Governmental Organization Voluntary Work of Athens, for more than ten years.

ILIADA DIAMANTONI, Adult educator of Greek as a foreign language at the Center of Greek Culture since 2014 and volunteer educator for immigrants and refugees at the intercultural school “Bridges” in Kypseli since 2010. She studied European Culture at the Greek Open School. of the Greek language via the internet. EUROLTA certified trainer.

KOSTAS KOROZIS, MA, Graduate of the Department of History and Ethnology of the Democritus University of Thrace, with a specialization in European History from the National and Kapodistrian University of Athens. He worked in research projects at the Historical Archive of GSEVEE and at the University of Macedonia of Economics and Social Sciences. He was trained in teaching Greek as a foreign language and works as a Greek teacher at the Non-Governmental Organization Mosaik for refugees in Lesvos, while for a year and a half he worked in Moria. EUROLTA certified trainer.

MICHALIS KARAKONSTANTIS, Professor of German language, graduate of the Athens School of Philosophy. He was trained in the teaching of Greek as a foreign language and works as the Head of the teacher team at the Hellenic Refugee Council and as a teacher of Greek for refugees. EUROLTA certified trainer.

KATERINA PRANENTSI, ΜΑ, staff member of the Greek Language Center, member of the team for writing and editing exam tests, evaluator and grader of productive and receptive skills of exams, responsible for the preparation and editing of supporting material for the teaching of the Greek language. Graduate of the Faculty of Philosophy of the University of Ioannina with postgraduate studies in Adult Education. Certified adult educator by EOPPEP with experience in teaching returnees and people with special skills. Trainer in the Unit “Language Teaching to children” in programs of the Ministry of Education for the distance learning of teachers of Greek as a foreign language.

Our Centre issues a Certificate of Attendance for the teacher training courses held, to be submitted to private or public organisations and calls. The Hellenic Culture Centre is an officially recognized as a Lifelong Learning Centre and a language school by the Greek Ministry of Education and Religions (EOPPEP code number 2101782/ 2018 and 2308668/2018).
